We congratulate the United Nation’s Commission on Narcotic Drugs for recognizing the achievements the international community has made in combating drugs over the past ten years. The Political Declaration we have agreed upon today strongly reaffirms our commitment to integrated and balanced approaches to illegal drugs that will make our nations safer and healthier. The United States understands that we have a shared responsibility in reducing the addiction, crime, and violence caused by drugs and we look forward to strengthening our cooperation with other nations and multilateral organizations as we work to reduce the adverse social, health, and economic consequences associated with the illegal drug problem.
