September 2, 2010
Statement by Ambassador Glyn Davies
Permanent Representative of the United States to the International Atomic Energy Agency and the United Nations Office in Vienna
The United States welcomes the opening today of the new International Anticorruption Academy (Academy) in Laxenburg, Austria. This innovative facility will provide comprehensive training for government and private sector officials throughout the world in preventing and combating corruption. The curricula and individual course offerings will be based on the holistic approach to fighting corruption that was enshrined in the United Nations Convention against Corruption. The Academy will develop good practices and ideas which will further our collective international anticorruption efforts.
We applaud the Government of Austria, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the European Anti-Fraud Office and INTERPOL for their initial vision and for providing the necessary expertise and resources to make the Academy a reality.
This venture deserves the support of all nations. The United States is collaborating closely with the current Academy partners to determine how we can best support future operations.
