David Bame
Mr. Bame assumed duties as Counselor for UN Affairs in September 2011. A Foreign Service Officer since 1988, Mr. Bame has worked primarily on political and security issues in the Middle East and Europe, including Iraq, Iran, the EU, and NATO. He most recently served as Director of Public Affairs and Outreach for the State Department’s Bureau of International Organizations. He has served abroad in London (2004-2005); Ankara (1997-2000), including duties as field officer in northern Iraq; Jerusalem (1991-1993); and Riyadh (1989-1991). He has also served in the Department’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, working on arms sales and regional security dialogues, and twice in the Department's Operations Center, including as a Senior Watch Officer on September 11, 2001. Mr. Bame was born in Brooklyn, New York, and holds degrees from the University of Virginia and the U.S. Marine Corps Command and Staff College. He is married with three children.
