Sixth session of Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Transnational Organized Crime to be held in Vienna
Progress in international efforts to address transnational organized crime will be the focus of the sixth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Transnational Organized Crime, to be held in Vienna from 15 to 19 October. The United States will be represented by a delegation under the leadership of Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Brian Nichols from the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.

NRC Chairman Says Safety Culture Critical to Improving Safety

Extraordinary Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Nuclear Safety
Following the accident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant in March of 2011, the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Nuclear Safety made the decision to hold an extraordinary meeting to study and review lessons learned from the accident and to further enhance the effectiveness of the Convention. This extraordinary meeting takes place from August 27 to August 31.

U.S. Contributes to UNODC Campaign on Transnational Organized Crime
On July 16, the Vienna-based UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) released a public service announcement (PSA) as part of a media campaign underscoring the serious and widespread harm resulting from transnational organized crime. The U.S. Department of State sponsored the production, which will be distributed worldwide through major international television networks and other media outlets.
