Sharon White
Acting Deputy Chief of Mission and Counselor for IAEA Affairs
Ms. White is chief of the Mission’s section dealing with all aspects of the IAEA. From 2009 to 2011, Ms. White was Director of the Office of Cooperative Threat Reduction in the State Department's Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, responsible for a 70 million dollar global program to engage scientists and government officials to ensure safe and secure procedures for working with biological, chemical and nuclear materials.
A career diplomat and member of the Senior Foreign Service, Ms. White served previously in Vienna as the Chief U.S. Arms Control Delegate at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. Other postings include Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent; Deputy Consul General at the U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City; and Deputy Political Counselor at the U.S. Mission to the European Union in Brussels. She has also been assigned to the Ivory Coast, France and Mexico. In Washington Ms. White served on the staff of Under Secretary for Political Affairs Thomas Pickering, as well as in the Operations Center.
Ms. White graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and received her Ph.D. in American History from Yale University. While serving at the State Department, she also earned a Masters in Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
