Ambassador Holgate Travel to Boston, MA and the Nevada National Security Site

Media Note

Ambassador Laura S.H. Holgate, U.S. Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, will travel to Boston, Massachusetts October 21 where she will speak to students and faculty at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University’s Kennedy School.  Also in Boston, Ambassador Holgate will be the keynote speaker at the Ruina Nuclear Age Speakers’ Series at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

On October 25, Ambassador Holgate will lead a group of high-level foreign diplomats to the Nevada National Security Site for a tour of the site’s facilities hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration.  There, visitors will see firsthand how the former nuclear explosive test site has been transformed into a center of science to meet U.S. national security requirements without the need for nuclear explosive testing.  The site has also become an important training center for nonproliferation and national security missions that benefit the international community.  Twelve foreign diplomats, including nine Vienna-based permanent representatives and the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, Dr. Lassina Zerbo, are anticipated to attend.
