IAEA Board of Governors Meeting, Agenda Item 4: Report of the Program and Budget Committee

U.S. statement as delivered by Acting Deputy Counselor Spencer Fields
Vienna, Austria

Thank you, Madam Chair.

The United States is pleased to join consensus on approving the recommendations of the Program and Budget Committee, including the transmission of the resolutions contained in the Agency’s draft Program and Budget for 2022-2023, to the General Conference for approval. We thank the Co-Chairs of the Working Group on the Regular Budget and the Technical Cooperation Fund Targets for facilitating early consensus on those issues. We also support, in particular, the recommendation to make the 2020 Internal Audit, Management Services and Investigations Report publicly available. We have long held that such an action demonstrates the intention of the Agency to operate in a transparent manner and in alignment with current best practices of sound financial and administrative management. We applaud the Director General’s efforts in establishing this practice as a precedent for the IAEA, and we look forward to future audit reports being made publicly available in the same manner.

Thank you, Madam Chair.
