IAEA Board of Governors Meeting, Agenda Item 2: Applications for Membership of the Agency
U.S. statement as delivered by Ambassador Jackie Wolcott
Vienna, Austria
Thank You Madam Chair,
The United States is pleased to join consensus in welcoming the application of the Republic of Guinea to be a new Member State of the Agency. We encourage Guinea to take advantage of the benefits of IAEA membership, both in the peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology and in achieving the high standards of safety, security, and safeguards that make those applications possible. In particular, this new status should enable Guinea to implement the safeguards required by the Non-Proliferation Treaty, as well as an Additional Protocol. We are confident that the Secretariat will offer whatever assistance Guinea may need both to implement safeguards and to realize the benefits of IAEA membership, and we stand ready to offer our own assistance in that regard.
Thank you, Madam Chair.
