Kyoto Congress 2020 (UNODC)

U.S. Closing Statement at the 14th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

As delivered by Political Officer Colin Fishwick
Kyoto, Japan

On behalf of the United States delegation, we congratulate Japan on hosting a successful meeting in unprecedented circumstances.

Our colleagues in capitals and around the world who were able to participate in the plenary, committees, and side events report one of the smoothest organizations of any Congress, notwithstanding the challenges.

Just the fact of this meeting during the global pandemic is a victory, but thanks to the leadership of Japan, we also delivered a significant substantive achievement: the adoption of the Kyoto Declaration, which will guide our efforts over the next five years and serve as an important point of reference for many years after that.

Thank you, Chair.
