U.S. Mission to International Organizations in Vienna
Vienna, Austria
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration’s Office of Radiological Security is allocating $700,000 in funding to a project at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Department of Technical Cooperation (TC) to support radiation technology in Argentina.
The United States funding will support the IAEA’s efforts to expand Argentina’s peaceful uses of nuclear technology. We are pleased to partner with Argentina in strengthening its capabilities and knowledge base on radiation technology generated by electron beams. These beams are used for industrial and environmental applications, such as in the treatment of industrial pollutants to reduce contaminants and make industrial waste less hazardous to humans and the environment.
This $700,000 contribution is part of a larger effort by the United States to assist countries in the development of their regulatory infrastructure for nuclear and radioactive materials and to promote the safe and secure use of nuclear technology.
